Rodney Mitchell
Rodney Mitchell , Coach

School: Signal Mountain

Coach, Guided by Mitchell in his seventh season, Signal Mountain was dominant throughout its postseason run last fall. The culmination was winning the Class Small state championship at WillowBrook in Manchester. With junior Lindsey Hollis shooting a 2-under-par 70 and senior Taylor Gardner registering a 76, the Lady Eagles had a 22-stroke lead after the first day. They added to it the second day and ended up outdistancing runner-up Northview Academy by 37 shots. Hollis (78) won the tournament and Gardner (79) finished second, which was the same order they finished in the Region 3 tournament at Chatata Valley in Cleveland. The order was reversed with Hollis (79) finishing runner-up to Gardner (73) in the District 6 tournament at Brown Acres. Sale Creek finished second to Signal Mountain by 16 strokes in the region tournament and by 14 in the district. "We prepare every year to see how far we can go at state. Those two are pretty hard workers," Mitchell said of Hollis and Gardner. "They work on their games all year round. Both of them had really great seasons. They played really well."
