Todd Close
Todd Close , Coach

School: Southeast Whitfield

Coach, It was clear this wasn't the first time the Southeast Whitfield first-year coach had answered the question, but instead of trying to spruce it up, Close reiterated what he thought was the main key to the Raiders' GHSA Class AAAA state championship. "They played as a team in every aspect,? Close said after Southeast?s 3-2 win over Druid Hills in May, the first state title in program history. ?The guys understood you don't win at this level if you go out there and try to do your own thing. They've played long enough together to know each other's strengths and weaknesses." The senior-laden Raiders also knew the program had twice finished as the state runner-up, a fact Close and his staff didn't shy away from heading into the title match. "They wanted to be the first because they had heard how hard it was for those guys to come in second," he said. 'They wanted it and they got it."
