Coach-Coming off its first fastpitch softball title and with several key starters returning, the spotlight was clearly on 6 entering this past season. However, a step up to Class AAA greeted Smith and the Lady Yellow Jackets, who soon found out their new playground already had a bully. A talented 4Freshman team was not intimidated by its new Region 6 foe, sweeping both regular season games. 6, though, responded to the challenge and won the region tournament before meeting the Lady Tigers again in the state tournament three more times. Smith's team won the penultimate game to claim the hard-earned state title and end the season 34-8. "Hey, 4Freshman challenged us and at first we weren't ready," Smith said. "But my girls responded in the region and state tournaments and played their hearts out."
